One day -class reunion-
old PE teacher asks, “Did anyone see the
game last night, who won?”
He did this every time during my high school year.
I know the right answer –yeah- Pistons
Every game the poor Pistons play and play
for a chance to win like pass times
Then finally they do it-
They win with zeal, persistence, and wanting sweating hands
each time shooting the ball –risking everything-
making the shot and whoa score
I scream out happily, “Pistons,” -yeah-
then I saw how amazed and wowed
all my high school crushes were –so delightful.
The trick is to always call him out,
for verily verily I say to you,
he won’t come up with another
So I wanted to be an attention hog and the best
and even though women are pronounced
ditzy and oh so emotional, I said,
“Right?”
I knew I gave the perfect answer
It was right and pretty smart. The whole class
Whooed in astonishment as he looked baffled
more then ever before. Then he says,
“Uhh I don’t think so,”
Then I spat back, and said
“Ummm yeah that’s last night’s game.”
He concluded that I asked an old classmate
and had not taken him seriously at all
Untrue(!)
How should I say this
the devolution of tall men
the size of a full grown giraffe’s necks
that can reach the hoop and slam that ball. Did
you know that Big Ben was the star player but not anymore
making his way to the Chicago Bulls to be
their new all-star player leaving the Pistons
leaving Billups to his own devices-
(everyone liked Billups but loved Ben)
leaving the fans to the rest of the team
leaving them to defend against the Spurs
but the Pistons came out on top-
while joyous fans,
waving their foam fingers from their cheap seats,
applaud their victory;
the Pistons are very proud and relieved,
counting theirs prayers and maybe seeing it as a blessing;
fans know it was their skill that came through
the graceful fan's strength is there own,
Thought your TV will always be on
you will never comprehend their skills.
